If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?

If I could do anything, I would be a scuba dive instructor; I wouldn’t be very good as I don’t have the best sense of direction under water and we might not make it back to the boat, however I do love to dive!!

What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Make sure you are passionate about this career as it will be rewarding when you are following your passion.

What is your mantra?

Life is not determined by what you want but by the choices you make, choose wisely every day.

How do you get yourself out of a slump?

A boat ride to watch the sunset is extremely relaxing and makes me happy.

What companies or leaders do you admire?

I can think of 2 local leaders that I admire. Dr. Michael Brooks, a dentist that works with the community in North Minneapolis and I admire his desire to serve others. The second is John Somrock, a member of our Board and has a breadth of knowledge. He is always willing to share and is very perceptive. He takes the time to listen completely and is always supportive. I can learn so much from him.

What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?

The change in technology has been significant in the last decade and in the last two years, the change has been more dramatic due to the pandemic. We are working in ways today that I never expected to be done in the Finance world.

Who has been most instrumental in your career?

Early on in my career, I was in my 20’s and the CFO at a hospital provided me with the opportunity to advance. First by promoting me from the accounting team to Internal Auditor, and then several months later to Controller. His confidence in my abilities helped me to succeed in these roles despite both my age and the fact that I was a female in a male dominated space. He ended up leaving to return to school for a law degree and I had the opportunity to become the CFO at the hospital.

What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?

My go-to is to jump on the boat, take the grill and cook out enjoying the evening with great food and a glass of wine. Super invigorating and relaxing!!
